Thanks for a very nice review. These days 55 for a partially sherried 12 year old single malt with a good name is not a bad price. The macallan double cask 12 year old 15 year old and 18 year old left to right if you get a sense that the tasting notes are fairly similar then you re right on the money.

Oloroso sherry was used to season a combination of both american and european oak casks with the former imparting vanilla nuances while the latter brings that hallmark macallan spice. As with all macallans the 18 features natural color imparted from casks used in the aging process. These days 55 for a partially sherried 12 year old single malt with a good name is not a bad price.
In light of the success of the macallan double cask 12 years old which was introduced in 2016 the scotch whiskey brand presents two new additions to the collection. The macallan treated this 18 year old to not just one but two cask types for its maturation released as part of the double cask series. Thanks for a very nice review. But between those i d take the double cask. Macallan 18 is quite delicious. It is a shame it has gotten so expensive. I m not sure if this is really all that better than the aberlour 15yr sherry finish or 16yr double cask. The whiskies definitely did turn out to be quite recognisably similar which should surprise no one since the difference between them is just the age and abv.
